I remember when the 2004 tsunami caused boats in Santa Cruz, California harbor, to rip loose from their moorings more than a half-day later. Ocean scientists say those waves can move 500 mph over the ocean before they hit shore, that's incredible. I used to live right by the ocean for nearly 30 years and was glad I had moved to the mountains two States away when that tsunami struck. I used to sit up on a cliff below my house and watch Maverick, a huge wave, hit the cliff below. They call it Mavericks now and I was there in about 1994 when one guy from Hawaii who was trying to surf it lost his life. I saw another guy who drowned on the beach below my house, and from my balcony, I saw him roll in the surf as they were trying to find him. Water is VERY powerful! It is very upsetting; people often just do not know how to handle themselves in the surf and a rogue wave can get them. Rip tides are another danger people need to learn how to identify FROM THE SHORE and avoid them as they WILL take you out to sea and the only way you can get out of them is to swim horizontal to the shore until you are out of it and then you can make your way back to shore. But people who are NOT good swimmers can tire easily, panic and become drowning victims. People often come from long distances to "play" in the ocean surf and have no idea what they are getting into. Waves usually come in sets, and about every 14th wave will be much larger, and you need to also know whether the tide is coming in or going out and few people who visit do! After I moved away, there were apartments just down the beach from where I used to live, up on the cliff, that collapsed when the wave action eroded the cliff below them, and I was shocked to hear about that, but not that surprised, the ocean is just more powerful than most people realize!

😱Scary! Amazing! Unbelieveable! 😱 I'm Hungarian. It has also been in the history of Hungary in my life so far, I found it exciting as a child because we live in a ten-storey panel, on the 10th floor. We experienced a large and relatively long-lasting quake in the mid-’80s! It happened in the morning, I looked out the window and totally saw the house in front of us sway in the opposite direction to the sway of our house! It was summer, all the windows were open. Everything fell off the top of the cupboards, my bed was slammed against the wall, the armchair rolled back and forth in the room, the chandelier swayed right and left! I don't know how long it could have lasted, but I felt long! I wasn’t scared then, but now, recently, a few years ago, and especially last year’s occasions, I’ve been scolded! At first I felt a weakness in my leg, I gnawed a little, I just put food in the microwave, at 12:30 in the afternoon, I also felt dizzy, and then I realized that everything was moving. Then it became visible, there is an earthquake. It might have been thirty seconds, but I got down on my knees and started praying! I remember it could only have been a strength of 5 or maybe 6, yet I scolded it! A week later, another one came in, which was in the evening, up to seven, and lasted much shorter, but it was worn out too! After that, I thought I could "feel" the pendulum for a day, for days, weeks! I lost my composure, I think, forever! We do not have huge water, sea, ocean from which there could be floods, tsunamis! It was an amazing experience to see that huge, burglary flood! Every time I look at it, I tear again! The huge price rushes relentlessly, defenseless! If all the countries of the world were to spend their minds, their money, to mitigate the consequences as little as possible, I would not feel that way! The effort that countries are making against each other could be better put together! According to God's original intention! ❗Then now, you can imagine what else people are experiencing elsewhere, where there are much denser, longer-lasting quakes! A lot of people have nothing to spare for, no escape plan!❗

This has to be the most intense footage of a tsunami that I’ve ever seen. The devastation. Man.

I used to buy cars from Japan, the garage I often bought from was very close to Fukushima and right at the sea, since then I never heard anything from them again, so I fear they all lost their lives. RIP to all. I hope history will never repeat.

Out in Japan they have the sunami on shore once and a while gotta hold on to the poles when water comes in it drains back out but the problem is it gets muddy they need breakers out there ...

I remember watching this and feeling such deep pain for those affected. What really got me was the dog rescued months later that was washed out to sea on plywood. OMG. Anything about this is just awful and sad beyond.
